The Sharks
and Yankees hooked up for a 2-1 player deal this morning. The Yankees have
been in hot pursuit of Ryan Klesko since the Sharks acquired him from the White
Sox. Sharks management was reluctant on dealing Klesko, until Yankees
owner "Don" Calabrese made an offer he couldn't refuse. The
Sharks shipped their 6th round pick for next seasons draft along with Klesko for
the recently much maligned John Vanderwal and Rondell White and the Yankees 9th
round pick. Sharks head honcho Tony Donato was quoted as saying
"We're happy to have him, Dammit!" about Vanderwal.

In another move the
White Sox traded gold glover John Vanderwal and Greg Swindell to the Yankees for
Cal Eldred, Julian Tavarez, Chuck McElroy, and Mark Buehrle. This
move should help solidify the horrible White Sox bullpen. (26) The Darters and Sharks have swapped catchers. The Sharks send Doug Mirabelli to the Darters for Einar Diaz. I'm sure this deal will give everyone plenty to talk about. (25) The Predators continue to make moves. This time a huge one; sending Randy Johnson to the White Sox for the White Sox #1, #6, #7, Rick Reed, Kirk Rueter, and Kevin Elster. (24)
The Sharks have acquired a defensive caddy
for Sammy Sosa with the (23) The Predators have struck again, Trading the ageless Chad Krueter and Jay Buhner to the Blues for Mark Kotsay and the Blues #7 pick in the extremely talent laden 2002 draft. The move for Delgado gives on OB guy in front of Vlad, and also gives them their 3rd 40 HR starter (Vlad and Batista). The Sharks have been very busy the past day trying to compensate for the poor
throwing arm of Mike Piazza and looking to improve their middle infield defense.
The Sharks have made three separate deals that netted a top notch
left-hand reliever, rh middle reliever (with a -6 hold), 5th starter and a good
defensive shortstop. (19) The addition of Martinez gave the Sharks a glut of mediocre shortstops, so Mike Bordick became expendable. Bordick and closer Jason Isringhausen were sent to the White Sox for Turk Wendell. Mike Piazza was ecstatic upon hearing the news of Wendell and his minus 6 hold. (18) With the pick up of Mariano Rivera, the Cardinals have sent expendable closer Dave Veres along with Todd Ritchie and Juan Acevedo to the Sharks for fireballing, but often wild Matt Mantei, veteran Pete Harnisch, and pinch hitter Olmedo Saenz. (17) With Fernando Tatis, hobbled by the groin pull last season (and reduced to a 3B-4), the Athletics have picked up Bill Mueller and the Sharks #13 from the Sharks for the A's #7 and #11. This move may send Tatis to the taxi squad. (16) Reeling from the Mike Bordick SS-3 news, the Sharks and dealt their #7 to the Predators for defensive specialist Juan Castro and catcher Carlos Hernandez. (15) The White Sox continue to play "let's make a deal", sending Quilvio Veras and Darren Lewis to the Blues for the Blues #1. (14) In a surprise move, the Predators have traded Mariano Rivera (one on the leagues top closers) and SS Edgar Renteria to the Cardinals for SS Miquel Tejada and the Cardinals #7. (13) The White Sox continue to unload, trading 31 year old "rookie" pitcher Matt Herges to the Sharks for the Sharks #3 and Herbert Perry. (12) The Predators, "taking a step closer to clinching the division" according to GM Wes Davies, have trade their #1 and #3 in next years' draft to the White Sox for closer Armando Benitez. Rusch will start some games this season, and is projected to take veteran Chuck Finley's place in the A's rotation- long term. The A's and Predators will also swap ballpark/option pick positions. Draft Day Deals (8) The Yankees (apparently desperately looking for a 30 year middle relief pitcher) have traded their #1 for next year along with John Smoltz and Andy Ashby to the Cubs for Jim Mecir. (7) The snail Darters continued their youth movement by sending veteran Roger Clemens, Derek Lowe, Arthur Rhodes and Curt Leskanic to the Cubs for the Cubs # 1, and #3 in next years draft, and the young arms of Brad Penny and Steve Strickland (6) The Gators, looking to improve on the 50-112 inaugural season have traded their #1 for next season to the Cubs for Jose Jimenez.
